Collaborative Learning: Share Flashcard Decks with Friends on Gradeup

We're excited to announce that you can now share your flashcard decks with friends and collaborate on building study materials together!

Studying doesn't have to be a solitary experience. Research consistently shows that collaborative learning improves retention, understanding, and overall academic performance. That's why we've introduced a new feature that allows you to share your flashcard decks with classmates and friends.

Why Share Flashcards?

  • Divide and conquer large study materials by assigning sections to different team members
  • Benefit from diverse perspectives on complex topics
  • Catch mistakes that you might miss when studying alone
  • Stay motivated through social accountability
  • Build a comprehensive study resource together

How to Share Your Flashcard Decks

Sharing your carefully crafted flashcards with friends is simple:

  1. Navigate to your Decks page.
  2. Find the deck you want to share
  3. Click the three dots (⋮) dropdown menu on the deck card
  4. Select Share
  5. Enter your friend's email address
  6. Choose permission level: Editor (can modify cards) or Viewer (can only study)
  7. Click Send

That's it! Your friend will receive a notification about your shared deck.

Once accepted, shared decks appear on your flashcards page with a special indicator showing they're collaborative.

Managing Permissions

As the original deck owner, you maintain control:

  • Change permissions anytime by reopening the share dialog
  • Revoke access if needed
  • See who has access to your deck

Collaborators with editor permissions can add new cards, modify existing ones, and help organize the deck—but only the original owner can delete the deck or manage sharing permissions.

Pro Tip

Create a deck with just a few starter cards and share it with your study group. Each person can add cards from their notes or areas of expertise, creating a comprehensive study resource everyone can benefit from!

Real-Time Collaboration

When multiple people work on a deck, changes appear for everyone with access. This makes it perfect for:

  • Study groups preparing for exams
  • Class projects requiring shared terminology
  • Research teams collecting and organizing information
  • Language partners learning vocabulary together
